Proofpoint Hosts Protect Insights Kuala Lumpur to Advance Cybersecurity in Malaysia

Securing Malaysia’s Evolving Digital Ecosystem as the Country Accelerates Towards Its Goal of Becoming an AI Nation by 2030

Proofpoint, Inc., a global cybersecurity and compliance company, recently hosted Proofpoint Protect Insights Kuala Lumpur, convening Malaysia’s top cybersecurity leaders, government officials, and industry experts to advance dialogue on digital trust, Artificial Intelligence (AI) resilience, and human- and agent-centric cybersecurity. The event highlighted cross‑sector dialogue on securing Malaysia’s evolving digital ecosystem as the country accelerates towards its goal of becoming an AI Nation by 2030.

Minister of Digital Gobind Singh Deo was represented by Datuk Fabian Bigar, Secretary General of the Ministry of Digital in Malaysia, who in the opening speech outlined Malaysia’s strategic vision for a secure, inclusive digital economy and emphasised the importance of strong governance frameworks in the age of AI.

“Malaysia’s national roadmaps consistently recognise that our government cannot do this alone,” stated Datuk Fabian Bigar, Secretary General of the Ministry of Digital in Malaysia.“To succeed in our vision to become an AI Nation by 2030, we must build a trusted digital ecosystem where public and private sectors work together to protect people, defend data, and enable innovation safely. Events like Proofpoint Protect Insights are crucial platforms for exchanging on this shared vision and fostering collaborative action.”

Held against the backdrop of rapid AI adoption and expanding digital infrastructure, the discussions explored the implications of agentic AI, evolving human risk patterns, and the governance considerations required to secure increasingly interconnected collaboration environments.

Proofpoint Innovation Underscores Need for a Unified, AI-Powered Cybersecurity Platform

Proofpoint highlighted its human-centric security philosophy, underscoring that the majority of breaches continue to originate from human-targeted attacks. As organisations adopt generative and agentic AI tools across business workflows, sensitive data is increasingly distributed across cloud and collaboration platforms, expanding the threat surface and introducing new risk vectors.

According to Proofpoint’s 2025 Data Security Landscape Report, approximately two in five organisations cite data loss through public or enterprise GenAI tools as a top security concern. Complementing this, Proofpoint’s 2025 Voice of the CISO Report indicates that while about 65% of CISOs in APAC report their organisations have taken steps to protect them from personal liability, nearly one in three (31%) continue to face resource constraints in meeting cybersecurity objectives.

These findings underscore the need for a unified, AI-powered cybersecurity platform that understands context and human behaviour and helps protect human, data, and AI agents’ activities.

“As AI continues to reshape the digital economy, the human layer remains a primary target for sophisticated threat actors,” said George Lee, Senior Vice President, Asia Pacific and Japan, at Proofpoint. “Proofpoint is committed to supporting Malaysia’s cybersecurity ecosystem with actionable threat intelligence and human-centric security capabilities that help organisations address emerging risks associated with agentic AI and evolving collaboration environments. By strengthening digital trust, we enable organisations to innovate more confidently while protecting their people, data, and AI-driven workflows.”

Throughout the event, industry and public sector leaders examined strategies to strengthen cyber resilience, enhance data governance, and foster public-private collaboration to safeguard Malaysia’s digital future. Proofpoint Protect Insights Kuala Lumpur concluded with a renewed call for cross-sector partnership so that innovation, AI adoption, and digital growth are anchored in trust, resilience, and responsible security practices.
