GMA Network Confirms Recent Hack But Dismisses Its Impact

The Media Giant Was Purportedly Victimised by a Ransomware Attack That Asked for USD $2.5M as Ransom

GMA Network all but confirmed that it got hacked recently with a statement touting a thorough investigation and a continued commitment to “maintaining the integrity and security” of their operations.

While GMA acknowledged the recent cybersecurity breach, the network nonetheless downplayed its impact, pointing out that the data accessed were of “low value” and did not include sensitive, personal, or confidential information that would compromise anyone.

Here is the network’s brief statement in full:

GMA Network has conducted an initial investigation following a recent cybersecurity incident. Importantly, the data involved were assessed to be of low value and did not contain any sensitive, personal, or confidential information.

The Network continues to investigate the matter thoroughly with the support of our technology partners and remains committed to maintaining the integrity and security of our operations.

It can be recalled that cybersecurity group Deep Web Konek had previously reported that GMA News and Public Affairs recently became the victim of a ransomware attack allegedly carried out by Devman @Infinityink.

Leaked samples purportedly from the breach showed that Devman @Infinityink hackers gained admin access to several servers, shared folders with work files, and used PowerShell tools. Some data was also encrypted. The attackers allegedly demanded a USD $2.5 million ransom.

GMA Network’s statemet came a day after Deep Web Konek’s initial report.
