DNB and CSM Join Forces to Secure Malaysia’s 5G Network
Digital Nasional Berhad (DNB) and Cybersecurity Malaysia (CSM) have signed a Collaboration Agreement, to bolster the security of Malaysia’s 5G network against cyber threats.
Witnessed by YB Tuan Gobind Singh Deo, Minister of Digital Malaysia, the collaboration was formalised at DNB’s My5G Portal experience centre earlier today.
The partnership will see the development of 5G security guidelines, which are aimed to be used as a fundamental requirement for the telecommunications industry and serve as a guiding principle for future 5G security baseline.
DNB and CSM to Collaborate for Better 5G Security
Through this collaboration agreement, DNB and CSM will also establish a National 5G Cybersecurity Testing Centre, which will serve as a platform for industry players to identify vulnerabilities, ensure compliance with standards and validate security measures.
Additionally, the partnership will see the exchange of threat intelligence information between the two entities, to further strengthen the nation’s cyberthreat combat capabilities.
Speaking at the event, YB Gobind praised the initiative to further strengthen the cybersecurity of Malaysia’s 5G network, saying, “The 5G network is one of Malaysia’s Critical National Information Infrastructure sectors, which impact national defence, economic stability, governmental functions and social routines. In our increasingly digital world, digital space has become an integral part of our daily lives, driving innovation, economic growth, and societal progress. However, with these advancements come significant challenges, particularly in the realm of cybersecurity.
“Cybersecurity is a shared responsibility that necessitates the pooling of resources, intelligence, and expertise. By strengthening alliances and partnerships, we can enhance our collective ability to detect, prevent, and respond to cyber threats.”
DNB Chief Operating Officer Nasution Mohamed stressed the need to ensure the resilience of Malaysia’s 5G network, saying, “It is crucial to establish a strong and robust cybersecurity ecosystem. As the industrial, commercial and public sectors accelerate their digitalisation efforts through 5G, DNB’s collaboration with CyberSecurity Malaysia, which entails the pooling of resources and sharing of expertise, forms a significant part of that effort. We look forward to this collaboration with CSM, and also with other organisations as part of a continuous development of a strong and robust national 5G cybersecurity ecosystem.”
Dato’ Ts. Dr. Haji Amirudin Abdul Wahab, Chief Executive Officer of CyberSecurity Malaysia, emphasized the significance of this initiative, stating, “The establishment of the National 5G Cybersecurity Testing Centre is crucial for enhancing our ability to secure 5G networks, providing a dedicated facility for testing and improving cybersecurity measures specific to these networks. Therefore, I believe this collaboration will lead to the development of strong security guidelines, the creation of a specialized testing centre, and the exchange of important threat information among experts, ultimately protecting the digital future of 5G networks for Malaysian users.”
