Despite Improving Cyber Hygiene, Proactive Defence and Strong Cybersecurity Remain Critical

Embedding Security into the DNA of Business Operations Is More Important Than Ever

The latest findings from the Cybersecurity Public Awareness survey by the Cyber Security Agency of Singapore are encouraging, reflecting a growing prioritisation of cyber hygiene among both individuals and organisations. Yet, the reality remains that digital threats are evolving faster than our defences—driven by the rapid advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AI).

Artificial Intelligence is a double-edged sword. It enables attackers to scale and personalise threats with unprecedented speed, while also empowering defenders with tools to detect anomalies, predict vulnerabilities, and automate responses. The challenge lies in how we harness this power responsibly and effectively, ensuring that it strengthens our security posture rather than outpacing it.

A key insight from recent industry discussions is the importance of early interception—particularly at the network edge. The closer we can detect anomalies to where data is generated and flows, the better our chances of containing threats. This makes the network a critical control point where visibility, detection, and response must happen in real time.

Transforming Cybersecurity from Reactive to Proactive and More

Organisations must also move from reactive defence to continuous threat management to stay ahead. This means implementing real-time monitoring, behavioural analytics, and prioritising risks based on context. But actions should go beyond tools and operations. Cybersecurity has to be built into every layer of the digital environment: from design and infrastructure, to deployment and day-to-day use. Resilience comes from creating intelligent, responsive systems that are secure by default.

Additionally , they must not neglect foundational practices as they embrace AI. One area that remains critically overlooked is the Internet of Things (IoT). These devices often lack the security maturity of traditional endpoints and are not evolving at the pace of emerging threats. Without proactive threat detection and real-time visibility, IoT becomes a silent vulnerability in the enterprise ecosystem.

The region’s rapid digital growth means connectivity is scaling faster than trust. Trust must now be designed into the very fabric of our infrastructure—through encryption, verifiable data paths, secured-by-default principles, faster response rates, and greater transparency in system operations

Cybersecurity has extended far beyond being a technical issue. It is now a strategic imperative. In this new era, resilience will belong to those who embed security into the DNA of their operations—where intelligence at the edge, trust by design, and continuous vigilance are not just aspirations, but operational realities.
