Proofpoint Plans Data Centre in Singapore to Address Growing Cyber Risks, Meet Demand for Cloud Services

The Forthcoming Data Centre Underscores Proofpoint’s Long-Term Commitment to Its Business and Ongoing Investment in the Region

Proofpoint, Inc., a leading cybersecurity and compliance company announced on the opening day of GovWare 2024 that it plans to establish a new data centre in Singapore in 2025. The data centre will enable customers in Singapore to comply with local data residency policies while benefitting from Proofpoint’s market-leading, human-centric cybersecurity solutions to fight advanced threats, including ransomware, business email compromise (BEC) and social engineering.

This forthcoming data centre will help organisations in Singapore address human-centric cybersecurity risks, providing the opportunity to benefit from Proofpoint’s market-leading threat protection solutions, running through an in-country data centre. Proofpoint Threat Protection is the only Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning (AI/ML)-powered, multi-layered threat protection platform that disarms today’s advanced attacks, including email fraud, ransomware, weaponised URLs, credential phishing, and other forms of social engineering.

“As Singapore confronts an increasingly complex threat landscape driven by cloud adoption, remote work, and rapid digitalisation, our primary focus is providing human-centric cybersecurity solutions,” said George Lee, Senior Vice President, Asia Pacific & Japan, at Proofpoint. “With the surge in data generation and the tightening of data residency regulations, protecting sensitive information has never been more crucial. As cyberattacks become more sophisticated, businesses must adopt multi-layered, cloud-native security to protect both people and data from emerging threats, while ensuring that information remains securely within the country.”

This plan is timely, with Singapore continuing to be a digital hub in Southeast Asia and the rest of the region digitalising at an advanced pace in recent years. Along with this advancement is an evolving threat landscape that is only growing more dangerous by the day, necessitating advanced cybersecurity of all types.

Proofpoint Is Committed to Addressing Cybersecurity Concerns in the Region

The cyber threat landscape in Singapore continues to evolve. While CISOs in Singapore continue to fear cyber-attacks, they are demonstrating increasing confidence in their ability to defend against them. Proofpoint’s 2024 Voice of the CISO Report reveals that more than two-thirds (64%) of CISOs in Singapore feel prepared to cope with a cyberattack, an increase from 45% last year.

In addition, while human error remains the top concern for CISOs, with 67% citing this as their biggest vulnerability, a majority (86%) are looking to deploy AI-powered capabilities to help protect against human error and advanced human-centred cyber threats.

The anticipated data centre broadens compliance options for organisations in Singapore and complements Proofpoint’s existing facilities, with the new location set to be the company’s 28th data centre worldwide. The launch underpins its ongoing investment in the Asia Pacific region, following the launch of the Australian data centre in 2023.

Since establishing Singapore as its regional headquarters for the Asia Pacific region in 2010, the cybersecurity and compliance company has significantly expanded its local presence, now employing around 70 staff members in the country.
