Unified Endpoint Management Explained

Unified Endpoint Management (UEM) refers to the use of a technology platform to manage and secure endpoints, like PCs, smartphones, tablets and similar devices, through a single pane of glass.

The UEM is an evolution of Enterprise Mobility Management (EMM), which uses mobile device management software to secure, manage and enforce policies on endpoints such as smartphones and tablets. The idea of EMM is to optimise the built-in security and functionality of the endpoints used within the enterprise and protect the corporate network at the same time. This is the same thing UEM aims to accomplish but for a wider range of endpoints or devices.

At the core of UEM are tried-and-tested EMM technologies, like the aforementioned mobile device management and Mobile Application Management (MAM). These are augmented by related technologies, including those that secure laptops and desktops and ensure high visibility and control across a wide range of endpoint environments.

It should also be noted that UEM is not new per se, as it has been around for quite a while. But it is only now that demand for UEM has skyrocketed, with shifts in working models forcing IT teams to support remote workforces. In particular, the rise of remote work has led to more and more employees using their own devices to access corporate data outside the organisation’s firewall, in turn increasing that network’s vulnerability.

Deploying UEM is, therefore, key to securing an organisation’s network. Then again, not all UEMs are created equal. Some, like Blackberry UEM, are leading the pack and will give the organisation more bang for their buck. The Blackberry UEM, specifically, offers these key features:

  • Management of diverse endpoint environments, including iOS, Android, Windows and Chrome.
  • Streamlined administration for single-pane-of-glass control.
  • Simplified user experience.
  • Compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Cloud and on-prem deployment options.

There is also the BlackBerry Spark® Unified Endpoint Management (UEM) Suite, a set of solutions that include Blackberry UEM, with a greater emphasis on security. In fact, the suite’s security is built from the ground up, offering superior protection and management across devices, apps, files and users – and it can be delivered on-premises, as a cloud service or in a mixed model.

BlackBerry Spark® Unified Endpoint Management (UEM) Suite delivers crucial capabilities to enable businesses to securely manage and support today’s remote, BYOD-centric workforce:

  • Mobile Device Management (MDM).
  • Mobile Application Management (MAM).
  • Mobile Content Management (MCM).
  • Identity & Access Management (IAM).
  • Built-in Advanced Productivity Apps and Capabilities.
  • SDKs for Developing & Deploying Secure Apps.

This means that organisations will get the highest level of security, flexibility, simplicity and comprehensive protection at a time when it is most needed.
