New SailPoint Privileged Task Automation Enhances Accuracy, Efficiency of IT Operations

Privileged Task Automation Revolutionises the Way Organisations Manage Tasks That Require Privileged Access

SailPoint Technologies, Inc., a leader in enterprise identity security, has launched SailPoint Privileged Task Automation, a new Identity Security Cloud capability powered by SailPoint Atlas. SailPoint Privileged Task Automation helps organisations improve productivity and security by automating and delegating the execution of repeatable privileged tasks.

Most routine privileged tasks are often repetitive and performed almost daily. Yet, many organisations are still managing these tasks manually, leveraging scripts or siloed tools that may increase inefficiencies and open security gaps. Privileged Task Automation helps organisations take a holistic approach to how they manage tasks and protect their identities based on the type of access needed. The new capability provides an easy-to-use, drag-and-drop interface for workflow configuration and an out-of-the-box library of customisable templates to help accelerate workflow adoptions. This can significantly enhance IT operations’ accuracy and efficiency and strengthen governance.

In a recent survey, 58% of respondents said they have privileged access credentials coded into automation tools or scripts, meaning they are available for anyone to see. This is a huge vulnerability for organisations. In fact, the Identity Defined Security Alliance 2024 Trends In Securing Digital Identities revealed that stolen credentials are the second highest reason surveyed organisations experienced an identity-related type of incident in the last year. SailPoint Privileged Task Automation integrates with common credential vaults and automates the use of credentials for each task without exposing them to the user, helping enhance productivity and security.

“Privileged Task Automation is another way we continue to leverage the power of our platform, SailPoint Atlas, to introduce new capabilities, which solve for new use cases and accelerate time to value for our customers,” said Matt Mills, President, SailPoint. “At SailPoint, we believe all identities may need privileged access for various tasks. Next-generation identity security will handle privilege as an extension of the organization’s existing identity security platform, enabling comprehensive oversight across an organization’s entire identity landscape.”

Privileged Access Management and SailPoint Privileged Task Automation Are Complementary

SailPoint Privileged Task Automation is designed to be complementary to Privileged Access Management technologies by allowing organisations to assign specific privileged tasks that would normally require full privileged session management, and by leveraging credentials from PAM vaults. This approach accelerates task execution in a secure way, delivering real value to our customers.

“The launch of SailPoint Privileged Task Automation further demonstrates our commitment to helping organisations solve their identity security challenges, across all types of identities, including privileged identities,” said Ben Cody, SVP, Product, at SailPoint. “It also helps organisations mitigate the challenges associated with the IT and security talent shortage and alleviate the burden from privileged users so they can focus on value-add activities rather than repetitive tasks.”

Current Identity Security Cloud Business and Business Plus customers can leverage Privileged Task Automation immediately.
