Singapore Police Force Recognises Group-IB for Cyber Threat Cooperation

Group-IB, a leading creator of cybersecurity technologies to investigate, prevent, and fight digital crime, has received prestigious recognition from the Singapore Police Force (SPF) for its contributions to the continued battle against cyber threats for the second consecutive year. The accolade was awarded during the 10th edition of the networking dinner for the Alliance of Public Private Cybercrimes Takeholders (APPACT) that took place on October 4th, 2023. The award underscores the vital role that private sector cybersecurity partners, like Group-IB play in combatting cybercrime rates in Singapore. APPACT is a dedicated public-private industry platform established by the Singapore Police Force CyberCrime Command (CCC).

Scams have become an escalating concern in Singapore over recent years, and the numbers continued to surge. In 2022, the number of scam cases increased by 32.6% compared to the previous year, amounting to losses totalling SGD 660.7 million, according to the SPF. In the first half of 2023, SPF recorded a 2.2% reduction in monetary losses from reported scams from the same period last year, which amounted to about SGD 334.5 million. SPF attributes this improvement to a concerted effort, bolstered by partnerships with private and public entities.

The recognition by SPF is a testament to Group-IB’s commitment to advancing Singapore’s digital safety. The accolade cites Group-IB’s collaboration with SPF in terms of training, knowledge sharing, and investigative cooperation. Group-IB’s Head of the Cyber Investigation team in the Asia-Pacific region, Vesta Matveeva, conducted a one-week attachment program for SPF investigation officers, providing invaluable insights into investigative methodologies and cutting-edge technologies to expedite the investigations of digital crime. Group-IB also provided assistance to SPF using its Threat Intelligence Platform, which holds the industry’s broadest range of intelligence with 60 types of sources across 15 categories.

Mr. How Kwang Hwee, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Investigation & Intelligence) said, “The cybersecurity community has evolved, and SPF acknowledges the investigative and training support of cybersecurity partners like Group-IB who have played a pivotal role in combatting cybercrime.”

“Group-IB remains committed to fighting against cybercrime in all its forms, a mission that strongly aligns with SPF’s vision. Through the exchange of knowledge and cutting-edge technologies with law enforcement, we are dedicated to building a trusted and secure cyber environment right here in Singapore,” Group-IB’s CEO, Dmitry Volkov said.

Wei See Wong, Group-IB’s Head of Business Development in the Asia-Pacific region, while acknowledging the recognition said, “Our alliance with the Singapore Police Force underscores the importance of public-private partnerships in the fight against cybercrime. We are proud to have contributed to SPF’s efforts in mitigating the impact of cyber threats and will continue to collaborate closely to enhance Singapore’s cybersecurity resilience.”

Additionally, Group-IB shared its expertise and insights during key industry events such as the ASEAN Plus Three Cybercrime Conference 2022, the 8th Senior Officer Roundtable on Cyber Crime 2022, and International Economic Crime Course 2023, reinforcing its dedication to building a united front against cyber adversaries.
